This is an "Incomplete" release which, means it is unfinished, and may not have been tested. It is provided for research purposes only. Do not attempt to use it as is! There could be unrecoverable consequences. You have been warned.Mozilla Firefox no longer includes an option in the preferences area to disable automatically checking for updates. You can still achieve this by disabling the update service in about:config. This will not prevent you from manually checking for updates, and installing them.
Steps:
- In Mozilla Firefox's address bar type, "about:preferences#general". Scroll down to "Allow Firefox to". Select "Check for updates but let you choose to install them".
- In Mozilla Firefox's address bar type, "about:config". You may be prompted to accept the risk of making configuration changes. Click "I accept the risk!". In about:config's search field type, "app.update.service.enabled".
- In about:config's search results, find "app.update.service.enabled", right-click on it, and select "Toggle". The value should now be "true" instead of the default value of "false".
- Close Mozilla Firefox, and then re-launch it. Your changes are now in effect.
Notes:
- These steps were tested on Mozilla Firefox 63.0.3.
- Mozilla Firefox will still perform update checks when viewing certain areas such as "Help/About".
- This does not prevent Mozilla Firefox from notifying you about updates it has already found, but not installed. You can disable notifications using the "app.update.silent" preference in about:config.
