Changing 007's Gender or Race

The problem with changing a product is that customers who had the old one remember the old one which, means your new product has to be better, or it will be met with disapproval. Even if your new product is equally good, it will be met poorly, because many people hold an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. Given all genders and races are equal, changing the agent assigned code 007 from James Bond (a white male) can't be argued as an improvement, and this is why many long time fans are rejecting the idea. Had the movie industry proposed a new film about 00-something-else who happened to be female, or black, or both the reaction would likely have been much different, because it's a separate product.
