- In VirtualBox click on "Input", and choose "Insert Guest Additions CD image".
- In Ubuntu Budgie, click on the menu icon (the Ubuntu Budgie logo, located top left), type 'Files' in the search area, and open Files.
- In Files, goto "Devices", and click on the VirtualBox Guest Additions CD (eg: /dev/sr0).
- In Files, click the "Toggle Location" icon (it is shaped like a U-arrow facing a dot), and make a note of the folder path in the address bar (eg: "/media/user1/VBox_GAs_6.0.14"). Re-click the "Toggle Location" icon. Close Files.
- In Ubuntu Budgie, click on the menu icon (the Ubuntu Budgie logo, located top left), type 'Tilix' in the search area, and open Tilix (a terminal emulator).
- In terminal enter "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gcc make perl dkms"
- In terminal enter "cd /media/user1/VBox_GAs_6.0.14 && sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run install".
- Reboot.
- In terminal enter "sudo /usr/sbin/usermod -a -G vboxsf user1". Replace "user1" with your username.
- In VirtualBox goto "Devices", "Optical Drives", and click "Remove disk from virtual drive". If you get an error stating "Unable to eject..." then click "Cancel", in Ubuntu Budgie open Files, under "Devices" find the VirtualBox Guest Additions CD, right-click on it, choose "Eject". You don't need to start the step over.
Notes:
- Tested with VirtualBox 6.0, Windows 10 Pro host operating system, and Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 AMD64 guest operating system.
- Provided you enable it in the virtual machine settings, these steps will allow copying/pasting data between the virtual machine, and the host. It will also allow dragging, and dropping files.
